kokie full coverage foundation

I am always on the hunt for an affordable full coverage matte foundation so when I heard great things about this new foundation from a drugstore brand, I had to investigate. I’d never heard of K-beauty inspired Kokie Cosmetics before but learned that Rite Aid drugstores in the US carry some or all of their cosmetics line. My combination skin really needs a matte foundation and a full coverage foundation works best for my discoloration and hyperpigmentation. This foundation is said to be both matte and full coverage, so I put it to the test to see how it performs.

Kokie (co-key) Cosmetics was established in 2015 and they take their name from the Korean word for elephant, meaning bold, beautiful and remarkable. You’ll also see the elephant in their logo, so that is the reason why!

Kokie is a cruelty-free full-line cosmetics brand that strives to offer high-end products at reasonable prices. Their team has thirty years in the beauty industry and they attempt to be inclusive, transparent and to bring quality products to their customers.

Kokie offers products for the face, eyes, lips, and even nails, makeup brushes, and makeup bags. Their products are very reasonably priced and currently, the most expensive products on their site (in the $20s) are kits and color palettes.

A handful of other products are over $10, including Full Cover Foundation which is a very reasonable $13. The rest of their line is under $10.

Kokie Full Cover Foundation

Kokie Full Cover Foundation is a lightweight, matte finish foundation that is formulated in 18 shades. Currently, only 8 of the 18 shades are available on their website.

I was unsure which color I would be in this foundation, so I purchased 20C, 20W and 30W. I am definitely a cool tone, but since 20C was the only cool color available, I also ordered 20W and 30W to blend with 20C if necessary. 20C was just a little too dark for my skin tone so I mixed 20C and 20W and found a pretty close to match to my coloring.

This foundation sets quickly and I found that it looks best when applied with a damp makeup sponge or a makeup brush. I blend it with my favorite brush, It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush #6, which results in a smooth and even soft-focus base.

For a $13 foundation, the packaging really hits it out of the park. The glass bottle comes with a rose gold pump and rose gold text on the bottle. It definitely feels more expensive than $13.

The foundation contains several fruit extracts including apple, pineapple, pear, raspberry, orange, and vanilla. This may be why the foundation smells quite sweet and juicy. I love it, but for those with sensitivities to scent, please note that there is a sweet fragrance.

There is alcohol in this foundation, which can be drying. There are also silicones in the formula which help provide slip and a smooth application. I don’t mind silicones in my beauty products, but if it is an issue for you please be aware that they are in this formula.

The foundation wore well all day, and I must admit, I was quite surprised. I find that it rivals my favorite drugstore matte foundation, Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin.

The only drawback was that I had to mix two shades to get a close match to my skin tone. Otherwise, the foundation has a soft-focus buildable coverage that is matte and lasts all day! An added plus is that it smells pleasantly fruity. It’s a very affordable foundation that has a luxury feel from the packaging to the performance.

Have you tried Kokie Full Coverage Foundation? What about their other products? I’d love to know!
